Body of missing Jackson man found inside vehicle submerged in Washtenaw County retention pond

FOX 2: WASHTENAW COUNTY, MIA car was seen submerged in a retention pond off of I-94 over the weekend, leading to the recovery of a missing man’s body.

The 38-year-old man went missing Thursday, Michigan State Police said. After the man’s phone location indicated he might be in the area, Chelsea police and MSP troopers conducted a search at the Sylvan Crossing Mobile Home Community, which is just outside of Chelsea. But they failed to locate him.

Around 8 a.m. on Sunday, Chelsea police searched the area further and discovered an antenna protruding from a frozen retention pond near Sylvan Crossing. Officers found that a pickup vehicle was the source of the antenna, and the ice was level with the truck’s roof.

According to Dearborn police, a motorist ran a red light on Ford and Schaefer on Friday before striking and seriously injuring a student at Fordson High School.

Before the truck was dragged out of the pond, the Wastenaw County Dive Team managed to break through the ice with a chainsaw, get inside, and remove the victim’s body.

In response, the medical examiner verified that the body belonged to the man who had gone missing.

It seems the man lost his way and crashed into the pond, according to MSP. Whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision is unknown.
