Boy, 10, has ‘miracle’ surgery to help him walk after losing legs due to horrific abuse by parents
A LAD got surgery to enable him walk alone after his parents mistreated him and amputated his legs.
Ten-year-old Tony Hudgell has spent years moving around in a wheelchair or using crutches and prostheses.
However, he is able to walk on his upper legs following surgery to stretch his left leg and repair his chronically dislocated hip.
Since his legs are now the same length, wearing prosthesis will also be simpler.
Paula Hudgell, 57, an adoptive mother, told The Sun: The surgeon was amazing. It’s a total miracle.
He is looking forward to playing football even though his surgeries are not yet over and he won’t require another one for some time.

He can’t wait; in fact, he may have done the wrong thing by kicking a ball a little while he was healing, but everything turned out well!
Tony’s adoptive mother commended him for his tenacity and resolve after he won over the nation’s hearts by raising almost $2 million for the hospital that saved his life as a baby.
At barely six weeks old, the 10-year-old had several fractures to his limbs as a result of the horrifying mistreatment he endured at the hands of his birth parents, Anthony Smith and Jody Simpson.
The terrible couple, who were both sentenced to ten years in prison in 2018, waited ten days before seeking medical attention, by which time Tony had also acquired septicemia and multiple organ failure.
His injuries at the age of four required both legs to be amputated at the knee, but the medical professionals at Evelina London Children’s Hospital saved his life.
Tony’s Law, which raised the maximum prison term for anyone who causes or permits physical harm to, or the death of, a child in their care, was introduced in 2022 as a result of the schoolboy’s persistent advocacy.
In recognition of his contributions to the prevention of child abuse, he was named the youngest recipient of the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2024 New Year’s Honours.
In addition to advocating for improved limb loss support, he has joined forces with Bionic MP Lord Craig Mackinlay and gold medal-winning Paralympian Richard Whitehead to raise money for Christmas gifts for underprivileged kids.
