Boy, 5, killed as hospital oxygen chamber explodes while he lay inside in front of horrified mom as cops launch probe
Tragically, a PRESCHOOLER lost his life when the oxygen chamber in which he was receiving treatment detonated.
Just before 8 a.m. on Friday, police and fire personnel were dispatched to the Troy, Michigan medical center in response to reports of the explosion.
Shortly after being swiftly removed from the hyperbaric chamber, five-year-old Thomas Cooper was declared dead.
Annie Cooper, his startled mother, was standing near the gadget when it exploded and was injured in the arms.
What ailment the youngster was receiving treatment for remains unclear.

A pressurized medical equipment called a hyperbaric chamber is used to give patients oxygen therapy.
However, a Troy Fire Department representative claims that because these devices are 100% oxygen, they can be quite flammable.
Five times as much oxygen is present in the space as in a typical room.
The police are looking into what caused the explosion. “Anything like this” was the first time officials had ever responded to it, they claimed.
Since then, the young boy’s family has created a GoFund Me website to assist with expenses related to his death.
His mother called her son “the smartest and cutest kid” and paid a heartfelt homage to him on it.
‘Super sonic mode’ sprinting as fast as he could was his favorite activity,” she continued.
He enjoyed playing in the mud, stamping on ice, rolling down hills, and nature school. He had a deep fondness for his parents.
The young boy’s “life” was Minecraft, and he enjoyed playing on his Nintendo DS and interacting with all of the characters.
Annie claimed that the night before her son’s untimely death, his father had given him a Yoshi video game.
What’s a hyperbaric chamber?
This type of treatment is intended to increase the amount of oxygen to tissues that have been harmed by illness, trauma, or other causes.
The Mayo Clinic states that the chamber delivers oxygen to the body by supplying pure oxygen in a contained area with an air pressure that is greater than usual.
What is it capable of treating?
- It can treat a condition called decompression sickness that’s caused by rapid drops in water pressure in scuba diving or air pressure in air or space travel
- Serious tissue disease or wounds
- Trapped air bubbles in blood vessels
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Tissue damage from radiation therapy.
“He was excited to come home after the hyperbaric treatment to play,” she recalled.
He loved to sing, she continued, “‘I love mama, I love mama, I love mama so very much.'”
“My mommy is the best in the world,” he also likes to say.
He aspired to become a chef when he grew up. “So I can be with Mommy forever,” he said when his mother asked him why.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Oxford Centre, where the kid was receiving treatment, has been shuttered.
His mother mentioned how they had just celebrated Chinese New Year in a heartbreaking message.
Thomas put his pocket money under his pillow and declared it would bring him the “best luck ever” after receiving it, according to her.

According to Detroit News, a representative for the Troy fire department stated that other patients at the facility shouldn’t be concerned about the event.
He stated that officers and firefighters who witnessed the distressing incident were being given access to social workers and bereavement counselors.
