Brian Stotts, RECENTLY RELEASED FROM JAIL, DIES in Joliet HIT-AND-RUN; Police Interview Semi-truck Driver

The Joliet Police Department reported on Sunday that Brian Stotts, who was murdered in downtown Joliet when a semi-tractor trailer ran over him, was 51 years old, not 21. Furthermore, no criminal or traffic fines have been issued in connection with the incident.

Later on Saturday, Joliet police tracked down the semi-driver, who claimed he had no knowledge of running over the 51-year-old New Lenox man.

The Will County Coroner identified the man’s identity as Brian Stotts. Joliet Patch learned on Saturday that the 51-year-old male was released from the Will County Jail at 3:36 p.m., according to jail records. He had been detained for three days for violating an order of protection, his fourth trip in jail since 2020.

According to Sunday’s amended Joliet police press release, Investigations Sgt. Tizoc Landeros:

At 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, Joliet Police got a call reporting a hit-and-run collision with a 51-year-old man from New Lenox lying on the ground at the intersection of Washington and Ottawa Streets.

Officers captured a screenshot of the semi-truck and trailer. The photo of the semi-truck appears to show an electric semi-truck. Joliet officers were familiar with these trucks.

It was established that the semi-truck did not go to the intermodal.

Police officials then investigated the location where the electric semi-trucks operate and discovered a semi-truck that matched the one in the photo. The inquiry revealed that the truck driver with whom the authorities made contact was actually driving the semi-truck in question.

His driver’s license was legitimate, and he did not appear intoxicated. The driver provided a statement to the cops. His original statement did not imply that the driver had knowledge of running anyone or anything over.

The trailer that the semi-truck was transporting was dumped off in a yard near Minooka. Both the semi-truck and trailer were examined for signs of the collision. At this point, it looked that at least one person had evidence of the accident. They were both towed for further examination and evidence processing.

Landeros stated that no citations have been issued to the semi-truck driver as of yet.

This crash is still under investigation. The Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit is requesting anyone who witnessed the accident or has information to phone (815) 724-3100.
