Bridge opening: Southbound I-471 to reopen Sunday, more than a month ahead of schedule
The Ohio Department of Transportation’s emergency repair project on I-471 southbound at the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge is almost finished, more than a month ahead of schedule.
On Sunday, February 9, it is anticipated that the southbound lanes and the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge would reopen.
About two to three hours after I-471 southbound reopens, KYTC signals engineers will modify the timing of the signals in Covington and Newport.
The signals listed below will be reverted to their initial settings in Newport, which have shorter phases:
Monmouth Street and Third StreetSaratoga Street and Third StreetWashington Avenue and Third StreetDave Cowens Drive and Washington AvenuePark Avenue and Dave Cowens Drive
Signals will be restored to their initial configurations in Covington along with:
Greenup Street, Scott Street, Garrard Street, Fourth Street, and Fifth Street
In late November, these lights received upgraded traffic controllers.
Following the reopening, KYTC is determined to keep an eye on traffic flow patterns to see if any other changes can be made to improve traffic flow along the Newport and Covington corridors.
