Brit girl, 15, killed by boat propeller while snorkelling on Maldives school trip as family reveal agony after her death

On a school vacation to the Maldives, a British girl was murdered by a boat propeller.

While helping the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme (MWSRP), a British registered charity, with its research mission, 15-year-old Jenna Chan perished in the horrific snorkeling mishap.

Jenna, a dual national of Singapore and Britain, attended St. Joseph’s International Institution.

Jenna was supposedly invited into the sea on November 8 but was “sucked under” minutes later when the motor was turned on.

Her parents have stated that they are “still waiting for answers” almost a month after the horrific event.

According to Alan Chan and Jennifer Liauw, the school’s policy of prohibiting phones throughout the journey allowed them to stay in touch with their cherished daughter.

“On 8th November 2024, during [an] excursion while snorkelling between Lux Maldives Resort and Dhidoo, an incident occurred and Miss Jenna [Chan] was struck by the boat’s propellers,” according to a Maldives police report obtained by The Times.

They were unable to obtain a post-mortem examination on the deceased from Maldivian officials.
