Brit woman plunges 500ft to her death at popular climbing spot in Spain as pal survives by clinging to rock

According to reports, a British woman passed away following a fall in a well-known rock climbing location close to Malaga in southern Spain.

The deceased, who was murdered after falling about 500 feet from a ravine, was thought to be around 20 years old.

Just after 7 p.m. on Friday, the alarm was sounded, and emergency personnel retrieved her body.

Her male companion amazingly survived by clinging to a protruding rock covered in brush as he dropped.

When he was recovered, he was reportedly in a condition of shock.

The tragedy happened adjacent to the well-known Caminito del Rey trail, near the community of El Chorro.

The climbers were at a hiking location called the Arabic Staircase in an area called the Swiss Sector.

The unidentified mountaineers are said to have spent the day engaging in sports and to have been involved in an accident while descending after inadvertently taking the incorrect path.

Police have been informed by the survivor that the two fell off the side of a ravine after losing their footing.

The nationality of the man who survived has not yet been disclosed, although the local news has stated that the wife was British.

Although they have not yet released an official statement, the Civil Guard, the police force looking into the event, is anticipated to do so this weekend.

“We have not been approached for consular assistance, but our staff stand ready to support British Nationals overseas 24/7,” the Foreign Office told The Sun when it reached out for comment.

In less than a month, this is the second British climber-related catastrophe in the region.

On December 11, a guy, believed to be in his 20s, fell and injured himself near the community of El Chorro at an area called Puente del Mono, which means Monkey Bridge in English.

By the time the initial rescue personnel arrived, he had been rendered unconscious and had experienced cardiac arrest.

Following the helicopter rescue, the unnamed British national was declared deceased.

It is believed that he was traversing a via Ferrata, a protected climbing path where hikers can clip into a metal rail that is installed into the mountain to serve as a safety line.

Following the incident last month, a spokeswoman for the Guardia Civil in Malaga stated: With the assistance of a Civil Guard helicopter headquartered in Granada, members of the specialized Civil Guard Greim mountain rescue squad, based in Alora near Malaga, have recovered the body of a young British man.

In the vicinity of Monkey Bridge, close to El Chorro, he had fallen while traversing a via Ferrata.
