California Deputy Joins Florida Law Enforcement, Praised in Attorney General’s Tribute Series

Attorney General Ashley Moody recently honored Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Harris, who moved from California to serve in Florida, as part of her Thin Line Tribute: Sunshine Salute Series. Harris, originally from Oakland, California, spoke in an interview about the challenges law enforcement faces in California, where he witnessed a lack of support for officers, including criminals being quickly released from jail.

Attorney General Moody emphasized Florida’s strong backing for law enforcement, attracting officers from across the country. “In Florida, we back the blue. Law enforcement officers from other states know this and are moving here in droves,” she said.

Deputy Harris echoed these sentiments, sharing how the supportive environment in Florida made the move the right choice for his family. Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook also welcomed the influx of new officers, encouraging more to join.
