Christian McCaffrey injury update as Kyle Shanahan issues statement on 49ers star after he hurt knee in Bills loss

Christian McCaffrey, the top running back for the San Francisco 49ers, has an injury update, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

During Sunday Night Football’s crushing road loss to the Bills, McCaffrey, 28, sustained a knee injury.

Shanahan informed reporters that McCaffrey’s season might be over due to what is thought to be a posterior cruciate ligament damage in his right knee.

“I think potentially [it’s season-ending],” he explained following San Francisco’s defeat of 35–10.

“I think PCL is usually a couple weeks, but I’m not exactly sure yet.”

On Monday, McCaffrey will go through additional tests to assess the extent of the injury and whether he can participate in any of the 49ers’ final five games of the season.

After missing the majority of training camp and San Francisco’s first eight games due to Achilles tendonitis, McCaffrey played in his fourth game since his return.

Backup During his absence, McCaffrey was replaced by Jordan Mason.

Issac Guerendo, a rookie, scored the 49ers’ lone touchdown of the evening, and he ended with 13 carries for 78 yards.
