CMPD Confirms Arrest of East Charlotte Shooting Suspect in Texas, How Did Police Find Of Shooter?

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reports that a suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in east Charlotte has been taken into custody in Texas.

Kevin Gabriel Merlos, 23, was discovered on Winged Elm Court close to Albemarle Road on May 26 with gunshot wounds.

Police would later report that Merlos had passed away at the site.

Jose Francisco Ulloa-Martinez, 42, was named as the case’s suspect following an inquiry.

Ulloa-Martinez was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and the Houston Police Department on June 3 in Houston, Texas.

He is being extradited to Mecklenburg County after being charged with first-degree murder.

According to CMPD, there is an active and continuing investigation into this shooting.
