Convicted! Maryland Deputy Brandon Burroughs Receives Sentence For Rape

DEBARYLIFE – The state’s attorney’s office stated that Burroughs was sentenced to 20 years in jail with all but 20 years suspended, which is more than the state’s recommended punishment, for abusing a lady inside a residence in the region while the child was just one year old.

In February, it was determined that the 37-year-old Upper Marlboro resident had committed second-degree rape.

Prosecutors claim that on October 22 and October 23, 2022, Burroughs visited his victim, who they have a kid together, and refused to leave when she requested him to.

They alleged that after that, while their young child was in another room of the house, Burroughs went to the woman’s bedroom and sexually abused her.

A recording of the event was made at home.

When Burroughs was accused and suspended, Prince George’s County Sheriff John D.B. Carr said, “The charges against this deputy are very concerning.” Law enforcement personnel swear an oath to defend, not to mistreat, other people.

“The conduct claimed in this case goes against the expectation that those who live and work in Prince George’s County deserve from its public safety community.”

The victim and her parents were present before Burroughs’ sentence, according to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy, who noted that Burroughs “provided a detailed account of the trauma she endured and how the assault continues to affect her.”

With their youngest daughter in close vicinity, the rape occurred in the victim’s house, making it “particularly troubling,” according to the judge overseeing the case.

“We are pleased with this above guidelines sentence and believe that it was appropriate under the circumstances presented in this case,” stated Braveboy. “Our office will continue to seek justice for all, without prejudice and will diligently work to protect our victims.”
