Crafts retailer to close 1100+ stores for 24 hours in shopping blackout – and Hobby Lobby won’t be much help

A MAJOR crafts retailer with more than 1,000 stores across the US will close all its outlets for a single day in the coming weeks.

It means that those with a creative eye will have to switch up their plans.

And they have been dealt a further blow because rivals will also be shut on the same day.

Michaels and Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Thanksgiving, which falls on November 28.

But stores will re-open their doors on Black Friday, and trading kicks off at 7am.

Michaels stores are also closed on Christmas Day but open on New Year’s Day.

Bosses announced their holiday store hours when they unveiled their 2024 holiday décor collections in September.

Chiefs said at the time that customers were able to start buying holiday items earlier than ever.

Bosses also revealed new items will be launched throughout the holiday season and last-minute shoppers will be able to snap up goods when needed.

“Michaels is the one-stop holiday shop to make the season bright,” execs said in a statement.

More than 1,000 Hobby Lobby stores will also be closed to mark Thanksgiving.

Like Michaels, doors will reopen for Black Friday shopping.

Hobby Lobby stores are also closed on Christmas but open on New Year’s Day.

Thousands of Walmart stores will be closed to mark the holiday, which has become a tradition in recent years.

Target is another major chain that closes all stores for Thanksgiving.

Last year, Brian Cornell, the CEO, revealed that the policy would become permanent.

In 2020, Target stores closed their doors for Thanksgiving for the first time.

“Keeping our stores closed on Thanksgiving is possible because we’ve built our team — and Target’s strong business model — to deliver on our guests’ holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours,” he said.

Home Depot, HomeGoods, and Marshalls are on the long list of chains that do not open stores on Thanksgiving.

Trader Joe’s and TJ Maxx outlets across the nation will be silent on that day.

Americans needing last-minute items shouldn’t worry, as a select number of stores are open on Thanksgiving.
