After going to her mother’s house on Thanksgiving eve, a woman is accused of fatally stabbing her.

After reportedly carrying out the attack on Wednesday at her parents’ house in Dix Hills, New York, which is around 41 miles from New York City, Diana Bekatoros, 51, has been charged with murder.

Hours after her husband entered a room to watch television, Josephine Bekatoros, 84, was discovered dead from a knife wound on the property, according to News 12.

In a panic, he called 911 after finding Josephine’s body.

Although the reason for the alleged stabbing is still unknown, Bekatoros reportedly ran away from the scene and was taken into custody at her Long Island home.

Bekatoros has since made an appearance in court after being charged with second-degree murder.

According to News12, she reportedly grinned and seemed content during the court session.

Bekatoros was cautioned by the judge for his indecent smile in the courtroom.

Bekatoros disputed the charges when he was arraigned on Thursday.

On Tuesday, she is anticipated to return to court.

The Suffolk County Police Department has been contacted by The U.S. Sun for comment.

In New York, a charge of second-degree murder is classified as a Class-A-1 dangerous felony.

According to the state penal code, Bekatoros might spend up to her life in jail if found guilty.

One man remarked, “It’s awful that there’s such a horrible tragedy around Thanksgiving in a small town like this.”
