DC Police Release Body Cam Footage of Officer-Involved Shooting Post-Stabbing
WASHINGTON — An officer is seen shooting a man following a stabbing incident while doing a welfare check in the District, according to just made public body-worn footage.
On May 18, it occurred near the Columbia Plaza Apartments, not far from the location of several graduation ceremonies held by George Washington University.
At the moment, some people informed us they heard three gunshots, according to Maureen Umeh of FOX 5. Up to nine rounds can be heard being fired at 28-year-old Jonathan Jefferson in the recently released footage.
Jefferson allegedly tried to flee after stabbing an officer with a knife, according to investigators.

According to Umeh, everything started with a welfare check. She claims that representatives of the Department of Behavioral Health’s Community Response Team were present when D.C. police officers arrived at the residences.
They claim to have concluded that Jefferson was required to be taken for an emergency assessment since he posed an urgent risk to others as well as to himself.

They claim that Jefferson drew a knife and stabbed one officer when they were trying to handcuff him.
According to the police, they attempted to tase Jefferson but were unsuccessful. That’s when they claim a firearm was discharged by another police.
Jefferson took a bullet to the leg and was hit in the hand. He was brought to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Jefferson’s knife also caused non-life-threatening injuries to the cop who was hurt. On the spot, Jefferson’s knife was located.
Jefferson is accused of attacking a police officer four times. Until the shooting is investigated, the involved police have been placed on administrative leave.
