Dearborn police use drone in night time arrest of stolen car suspect

Facebook page of the Dearborn Police Department provided the video.

According to FOX 2-Dearborn police, a Flock license plate reading camera and a department drone were important in the early Monday morning identification and apprehension of a suspect in a stolen vehicle case.

Night Shift and Special Operations Officers responded when a Flock reader in the vicinity of Brady Street and Cherry Hill discovered a stolen car.

Officers used a drone with an infrared camera to find the culprit once they were in the vicinity. The arrest and recovery of the vehicle followed a brief foot pursuit.

Police posted video clips of drone footage and other footage on their Facebook page.

As a reminder to locals to secure their cars, police say the suspect was also linked to a case of attempted auto break-ins in the city’s west side’s Country Club Neighborhood.

Chief Issa Shahin attributes the arrest to his special squad and the application of new technology.

“We are fortunate to have advanced technology, including license plate cameras and drones, to assist us in our day-to-day operations to locate these suspects,” he stated. “This incident shows how our Night Shift Officers, Special Operations Team, and Drone Officers worked together safely and effectively to find and capture the culprit. I want to thank all of the participating police officers for a job well done.
