Deranged prisoner tormented Home Office Minister Jess Phillips by stalking her from behind bars

Home Office Minister Jess Phillips was stalked from behind bars by a DERANGED inmate who harassed her.

As she announced that stalker protection orders will now be extended to British prisoners, Ms. Phillips disclosed yesterday that she had a harrowing struggle with a depraved man.

The minister claimed to have seen “quite a lot of cases” in which men incarcerated for assaulting an ex-partner were nevertheless able to follow and communicate with them online.

Ms. Phillips responded, “I think that for most victims, what you try and do is diminish it at first,” when asked how being pursued by a prisoner affected her.

Ms. Phillips, who has spent decades advocating against violence against women and girls, claimed that her stalker was able to communicate with her from prison and write letters to her.

She said she received a “crestfallen” phone call from the justice secretary, who expressed regret that the jail system had permitted this to occur.

The Sun reported in September that too many stalker victims were not being adequately protected by the police.

Hundreds of lives may be in danger, according to a significant review.

The report’s watchdogs yesterday demanded immediate measures to enhance the way police in England and Wales respond to stalking incidents and assist victims.

In order to facilitate the prosecution of the crime, they also called for a reform in the law.
