DETROIT (FOX 2):After discovering an unsecured object and shooting himself in the hand on Friday, a 4-year-old kid is fortunate to be alive.

Hilary Golston of FOX 2 was informed by Capt. Mike Dicicco that they think the 4-year-old youngster shot himself in the hand after gaining access to an unlocked firearm.

According to Dicicco, at 12:30 on Friday, police were summoned to a residence on Fullerton Street on the west side of Detroit, just south of Davison close to Dexter. According to him, authorities brought the youngster to the hospital, where he is receiving treatment for a minor injury to his hand.

Police claimed that the boy, his mother, and another family member were present when they searched the house. A pending warrant led to the arrest of that second family member.

Although no one else was harmed inside the house, authorities reported discovering two firearms in one of the bedrooms.

Dicicco did not specify the charges that the child’s parents would be subject to.

  • If the minor discharges the firearm and injures themselves or another individual: a felony punishable by imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

  • If the minor discharges the firearm and inflicts serious impairment of a body function on themselves or another individual: a felony punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine of up to $7,500, or both.

  • If the minor discharges the firearm and inflicts death on themselves or another individual: a felony punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years or a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
