DETROIT (FOX 20-After a burst pipe last Friday flooded the Detroit Artists Market (DAM) in Midtown, the area will be drying out over the next two weeks.

The new art display was set to debut soon, according to owner Miah J. Davis, but on Friday night, everything changed when the pipe broke.

“The gallery was drenched with rain. And it was dripping water all over our place when we got in,” Davis remarked.

The backstory

A pipe at the studio ran out of capacity on Friday after temperatures dropped below freezing for the whole week last week. The Dope Women in Media exhibition was scheduled to open on the same day as the flood.

DAM is currently drying up and evaluating the damage caused by the catastrophic flooding.

Regretfully, our technology and furniture were all compromised. “Our recovery teams are coming and going from the space,” Davis stated. “It s going to take quite a bit to get us back up and running.”

According to Davis, the space’s restoration will probably take many months.

“The display was going to be fantastic. Four women who work in media, ranging from photography to videography and all points in between, were featured. Detroit is home to all of the female artists,” Dvais stated.

Next steps:

The artwork on the walls was saved before it was damaged, but DAM is currently looking for a venue to hold the show.

Our mission comes first because we are a nonprofit. We’re searching for any off-site venues that can accommodate our next show,” Davis stated.

In addition to space, DAM is appealing for contributions of furniture and basic technology, such as printers. You can send DAM an email at info@detroitartistsmarket.org if you have anything that can be of assistance.

Additionally, DAM is attempting to fund $35,000 to aid in the building’s restoration, and there is a link for financial contributions.
