DETROIT (FOX 2)-UPDATE: According to Jessica Dupnack, the second passenger surrendered himself to the police on Wednesday at approximately 2:00 p.m.
The driver pulled a Detroit police officer who had been on patrol late Tuesday night while he was evading authorities.
While a second person who was shot by police who opened fire on the car remains in critical condition, the officer was taken to the hospital.
According to police, the person who was hurt and the guy who turned himself in this afternoon are both thought to be members of a gang.
Just before midnight, officers on patrol near Seven Mile and Ashbury Park noticed a car backed into a driveway and obstructing a sidewalk on Detroit’s west side, setting off the chaotic scene.
When the patrolling police went to investigate, they discovered two occupants inside the vehicle, according to Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald. When the authorities asked them to exit the vehicle, they seemed to be tucking something under the seat.
Before the automobile’s driver drove into the parked car behind him and then slammed forward to hit a scout car, they refused.
They attempted to turn while dragging the officer as the driver sped forward and collided with the DPD vehicle once more.
“The motorist made an effort to turn. He pulled the cop along with the car. Two officers did shoot at the car many times out of fear for their personal safety,” Fitzgerald said.
The car was discovered on Prevost a few streets away. Police also discovered a person nearby who had been shot in the chest and arm. They were taken to the hospital after being identified as an 18-year-old.
According to the police, the driver of the car is seventeen years old. The driver managed to escape, but they were able to track him down with a K-9 unit.
A firearm was found, a warrant was sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and the shooter, who is in his 50s, has been placed under arrest.
