(FOX 2):With a mural painted across a portion of the Avenue of Fashion, Detroit’s City Walls program is leading a new creative partnership aimed at showcasing the city’s youngsters.

One method is by painting a huge mural as part of the City Walls initiative, which adds color to the buildings and structures that line Detroit’s roadways, so beautifying city blocks.
Officials are hoping the artwork would create as much of a stir as the famous cleats that were hand-painted and displayed prior to last year’s NFL Draft.

Along the Avenue of Fashion, the mural will be painted on the side of the Yoshi Hibachi Grille Livernois site.
What they’re saying:
The initiative aims to “commemorate youth voice” and the “power of expression” in poetry, according to the executive director of InsideOut Literary Arts.
“Think about how important it is to hear from young people, think about how important it is to have that moment of joy and inspiration to celebrate this incredible avenue of fashion,” Suma Rosen remarked.
For a special occasion, Collette Wiliams, the owner of the Hibachi grill site for the past 25 years, says he has been reserving the area where the painting would be placed.
“I m looking to see some history about the avenue of fashion being told in their poetry,” Williams stated. “That s what I m looking for.”
What you are able to do:
According to the program’s project manager, artists have 30 days to submit their work before the deadline on February 21.
