DETROIT (FOX 2): Residents who lived in specific municipal neighborhoods affected by the June 2021 floods can apply for assistance by completing a pre-screening form.
Help is available to residents who reside in single-family houses in 22 specific neighborhoods and can demonstrate how the flooding on June 25–26, 2021, affected their properties.
The backstory
In the summer of 2021, Detroit saw widespread flooding due to heavy rain.
Over a 12-hour period, six inches of water fell—more than twice as much as the agency’s system can manage. The regional water network can withstand 3.31 inches of precipitation over a 24-hour period, or 1.7 inches in an hour.
Many freeways were forced to close due to the floodwaters, and residents had to contend with sewer water backing up into their basements.
