Snow squalls hit the Southeast on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, accumulating a few inches of snow along three freeways in the Detroit region.
The blowing snow began late Wednesday night, prompting the issuance of the season’s first Winter Weather Advisory for Thursday morning. Both northern and southern counties experienced lake effect snow squalls, especially in the 696 corridor.
Michigan State Police reported responding to 86 traffic crashes on Thursday morning.
“Slow down!” On X, MSP wrote. “Weather doesn t cause crashes, drivers do!”
There are snowploughs and salt trucks on the roads, but you have to stay.
Additionally, when cars come across emergency vehicles, such as police and tow trucks, they are required by Michigan law to move over and slow down by 10 miles per hour below the legal speed limit.
A car belonging to MSP was rear-ended on Thursday morning.
After being struck close to the 11-mile ramp, several MSP units suffered significant damage.
After seeing the parked MSP cars, the semi tried to brake but lost control, colliding with the first patrol car and throwing it 100 yards into the back of another state police vehicle where a trooper was seated.
Police claimed the vehicle was attempting to go into the left lane to pass slow-moving traffic, but the MSP troopers were stopped there with their emergency lights on. By hopping over the median wall, the trooper escaped major injury. Due to his irresponsible driving, the truck driver was taken into custody.
Late Wednesday night, a Michigan State Police vehicle parked on I-75 for an investigation was struck by a semi-truck, which was caused by both messy roads and careless driving. The semi driver was apprehended by troopers for driving recklessly.
