Detroit Zoo, Belle Isle Nature Center again closed due to bitter cold
This afternoon will see a modest decrease in the cold, but the day will begin with more unpleasant weather. Wednesday morning’s wind chills are in the minus double digits, with some reaching as low as -20.

The Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center are both closed Wednesday.

(FOX 2) Royal Oak, Mich.Due to the extreme weather, the Belle Isle Nature Center and the Detroit Zoo will not be open on Wednesday.
The weather caused both zoos to close. With wind chills far into the negative double digits, Southeast Michigan is under an Extreme Cold Advisory through Wednesday at noon.
During the shutdown, members of the animal care team and other critical personnel will stay at both locations.

In certain places, wind chills might drop as low as -20 degrees on Wednesday morning.
The cold will subside somewhat as the day goes on.
Later in the day, highs will rise to near twelve. Wind chills, however, may remain well below zero due to strong gusts. Even when the highs are in the double tens, it will feel like -10.
