Diesel spills near Rouge River after truck jack-knifes on I-94
(FOX 2) Wayne County, MichiganMonday morning, a truck driver lost control and jackknifed in the I-94 ditch, causing a fuel leak that cleanup workers cleaned up.
The truck driver “dropped” the third axle of the trailer while traveling west on the interstate close to Oakwood Boulevard, according to Michigan State Police. Around 1:30 a.m., he lost control of the situation and jackknifed in the ditch.
The ditch, which is close to the Rouge River, was filled with diesel fuel in an undetermined quantity. The truck was hauling 75,000 pounds of steel rollers, but it’s unclear if any of them fell.
The truck driver was brought to a hospital as a precaution, according to the police.
For hours while the cleanup was underway, only one lane of the freeway was accessible. By 9 a.m., the road was open again.
