Dramatic I-94 video shows jack-knifed semi crash into emergency vehicles in west Michigan

Michigan highways experienced problems Thursday morning due to the winter storm, including frantic police footage from a semi-truck incident in Kalamazoo County that involved a jackknife.

FOX 2.Kalamazoo County police dash cam footage captured a chaotic crash Thursday morning due to the dangerous driving conditions caused by the winter blast.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputy cruiser and Comstock Fire engine were clipped by the jack-knifed semi-truck that struck police and fire vehicles. After responding to a prior collision site where an SUV had overturned, the first responders were halted on the shoulder.

According to the footage, the truck lost control, clipped the police car, and then crashed into the fire truck, scattering the firefighters. The truck driver was taken away for minor injuries as a precaution, and no first responders were hurt.

Following the terrifying collision, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller posted a statement on social media urging drivers to avoid the roadways whenever possible in bad weather.

“A semi-truck jackknifed, flipped, and struck a Comstock Fire apparatus and a Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle close to the 80.5-mile marker in Comstock Township at around 8:30 AM as first responders were helping at the site of an accident on eastbound I-94. Fortunately, this incident did not result in any reported injuries.

“We strongly advise everyone to stay indoors during severe winter weather unless it is absolutely necessary. If you must drive, please drive very carefully, slow down, and give yourself more time to get where you’re going. It is essential for both your safety and the safety of first responders.
