Drivers can avoid tow fees that snowball to $800 this winter with simple two-minute handmade solution

This winter, motorcyclists can avoid costly tow costs by putting up a do-it-yourself sign.

If officials in Alta, Utah, have to move a driver’s car, they might be charged $800.

People who must park overnight are now being asked by the town to put a handwritten sign with their contact information on their windshield.

They will be able to avoid expensive tow costs if authorities call them and request that they relocate the vehicle.

Marshal Mike Morey of Alta Town stated: “You may have to pay up to $800 by the time you pay for the towing and our citation.

“And that s an awful high penalty for a small parking mistake.”

At this time of year, it’s challenging to get tow trucks all the way to the top of the canyon, Morey added.

Alta is located close to Salt Lake City, in the snow-capped Wasatch Mountain Range.

Because of its well-known ski resorts, it is essential that snow plows be able to enter and clear the roads.

“This tip can help drivers avoid a citation because officials just want cars out of the way so plows have better access,” Morey noted.

“We’re not asking people to leave a bunch of personal information out that they’re not comfortable with,” Morey added in response to those who were concerned about putting their private information on show.

“What we re asking is, give us a place to start looking in case we need to move your vehicle.”

It occurs at the same time as citizens of a large city run the risk of fines and potential tows if their vehicles break emergency snow regulations.

The city of Boston, Massachusetts, has issued a warning to drivers on where they should park their cars this winter and is urging citizens to use off-street parking.

Other nearby companies occasionally provide temporary parking options, and many garages provide discounted parking alternatives for individuals with parking stickers.

The Boston Common Garage, which serves residents of Beacon Hill, Back Bay, and Downtown Boston especially, is one garage that is known to provide reduced rates during snow emergencies.

To be eligible for the discount, locals must show evidence of residency at the garage office.

The Motor Mart Garage and the Auditorium Garage are two other participating garages that provide special prices to locals in particular neighborhoods.

Drivers are reminded that discounted prices are typically only available during the snow emergency and that they should be prepared to verify their qualifying conditions with each individual garage.

Residents of Boston are also urged to bear in mind their snow removal obligations, which include maintaining ramps and fire hydrants free and cleaning the sidewalks outside their homes.
