Drivers told to return more than 541,000 tires with special symbol over huge crash risk in winter weather

Due to a widespread recall, drivers are being advised to inspect their tires as they get ready for winter.

The tires need to be inspected right away because they provide a serious collision risk.

More than 541,000 winter tires sold in the US are being recalled by Prinx Chengshan Tire North America.

The purpose of winter tires is to provide drivers with more control when driving in icy and snowy conditions.

However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a notice stating that the tires do not offer enough traction.

PCTNA informed the public about the safety recall in a letter to the NHTSA on Monday.

The recall involves approximately 541,632 Fortune Tormenta and Prinx Hicountry winter replacement tires, which are available in over 100 sizes.

Three-peak mountain snowflake insignia are seen on the recalled tires.

According to PCTNA, although the tires passed European testing, they probably don’t meet US safety regulations.

The reason for this is because they “do not have sufficient traction to perform in all snow weather conditions.”

Without enough traction, snow tires might make a collision more likely.

According to PCTNA, a cure is being developed.

Owner notification letters are anticipated to begin on February 1, 2025, according to the firm.

Owners can call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or PCTNA customer service at 1-310-205-8355 extension 109 if they have any queries.

Tire traction criteria are ranked from highest to lowest in the United States.

According to the NHTSA, the ratings indicate a tire’s capacity to stop on wet pavement.

The highest rating is an AA, and the lowest is a C.

More winter car advice from AAA

The American Automobile Association offered tips on how to get your vehicle ready for winter.

The following advice was provided by AAA to drivers preparing for cold weather:

  • Get your brakes checked
  • Check tire pressure
  • Test your car’s battery
  • Apply water repellent to your windshield
  • Check antifreeze levels
  • Clean your headlights
  • Have emergency tools available like jumper cables, salt, and an ice scraper

In the meanwhile, drivers have been cautioned to inspect their tires before winter arrives.

Ted Jenkins, a financial analyst, told The U.S. Sun that doing so could result in lower fuel prices for drivers.

“If you want to maximize gas mileage, it s more important than ever to check and maintain your tire pressure,” Jenkins told the U.S. Sun.

According to the oXYGen Financial business consultant, “a loss of 1 PSI could result from every -10 change in ambient temperature.”
