Drunk driver crashes into police car on I-94 in Detroit, keeps going
DETROIT (FOX 2):Late on Wednesday, a drunk driver struck a Michigan State Police unit that had stopped and continued driving until his vehicle died.
Around 11:30 p.m., police say they stopped a trooper on westbound I-94 close to Mount Elliott. The trooper was outside checking on an abandoned vehicle when his car’s emergency lights came on and blocked the freeway’s right lane.
An intoxicated driver in a Ford Fusion struck the patrol car while it was outside and continued to drive. The 47-year-old man was discovered on the right shoulder of the road, inside his wrecked vehicle.
Early on Thursday, an unidentified individual shot up a woman’s car as she was traveling on I-94 in Detroit, injuring her.
Both his vehicle and the MSP vehicle were towed from the scene when police discovered the man was intoxicated and placed him under arrest.
When MSP F/Lt. Mike Shaw commented, “We were fortunate that the trooper was not struck by this suspect,” “We nevertheless urge drivers to abstain from dangerous driving practices that result in collisions. In addition to not swerving to make room for an emergency vehicle, this driver was intoxicated.
Drivers must slow down and yield to law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and road service personnel in accordance with Michigan’s Move Over legislation. There will be penalties for noncompliance.
