ESPN makes major broadcast change involving Bill Belichick with his new UNC team given prime spot on schedule
Bill Belichick has been granted a prominent position by ESPN to begin his new role as college football coach the following season.
When the University of North Carolina hired the eight-time Super Bowl winner coach, it sent shockwaves through the sport.
ESPN will give prime billing to AndBelichick’s Chapel Hill debut.
On its X page on Thursday, the school revealed the updated kickoff time and broadcaster for their season opener.
On Labor Day weekend, their Week 1 matchup versus TCU has been rescheduled for Monday, September 1st, and will begin at 7.30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The majority of Week 1’s games will be played on Saturday, August 30.

The 2025 college football season’s complete schedule has not yet been revealed.
However, as in 2024, it is expected to begin in Dublin, Ireland.
On Saturday, August 23, K-State will play Iowa State across the Atlantic Ocean.
Week Zero is now the weekend preceding the season’s customary Week 1.
Additionally, games are probably going to happen on the majority of weeknights from August 23 to August 30.
A few days later, on Thursday, September 4, the NFL season will start.
On September 8, ESPN will air the first Monday Night Football game of the 2025 season.
But by including Belichick’s UNC Tar Heels on the schedule, they have secured a bonus football matchup on Monday.
In college football, Belichick is already making a difference, much like Deion Sanders did with the Colorado Buffaloes.
However, ESPN’s CFP playoff ratings this year were underwhelming.
Compared to 2023, fewer people watched the semifinals, in part because of the new 12-team structure.
Holiday performances typically draw sizable crowds, and they were performed on New Year’s Day last year.
However, they happened on Thursday and Friday nights during the first week of January this year.
On Monday night, Ohio State defeated Notre Dame in the National Championship Game.

Compared to the 25 million viewers of the Michigan vs. Washington matchup previous year, that was a 12% decrease.
