Ex Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs pitcher Brian Matusz dies suddenly at 37 as tributes pour in to MLB star

PRIOR Brian Matusz, a 37-year-old star for the Chicago Cubs, passed away.

Baseball fans from all over the world have been paying their respects to the deceased MLB pitcher.

Colorado native Matusz passed away on Tuesday morning; his cause of death is still unknown.

His most well-known roles were with the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles.

He played for the Orioles for seven years after joining them in 2008.

Matusz made 279 appearances as a pitcher for the Baltimore team.

He pitched for two of the Orioles postseason teams in 2012 and 2014 while he was in Baltimore.

In 2016, he then signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs.

During his career, Matusz played for the Long Island Ducks and had stints in the Mexican baseball league.

In response to his passing, MLB executives have released a statement.

They posted a statement on X saying, “We are heartbroken to hear of the demise of former Major League pitcher Brian Matusz.

Additionally, Matusz’s former team, the Baltimore Orioles, also paid their respects.

“Our hearts are heavy tonight as we mourn the passing of former Oriole, Brian Matusz,” they stated.

“From 2009 to 2016, Brian was a mainstay in our clubhouse. He was adored by everyone in Birdland and had an unrivaled enthusiasm for baseball and our neighborhood.

“He dedicated his time to connecting with any fan he could, was a cherished teammate, and always had a smile on his face.”

‘UNMATCHED PASSION’

Matusz was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2005 MLB Draft after playing baseball during his high school years.

However, he made the decision to attend the University of San Diego, where he was extremely successful.

He received the 2008 West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year award.

The late baseball great has received tributes from fans.

According to MLB blogger Dan Clark, he has heard hundreds of stories about Matusz helping the underprivileged.
