Ex-NASCAR Driver and Son Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Police on Jan. 6
DEBARYLIFE – The D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office reports that a retired NASCAR driver and his son were detained on Wednesday and charged with assaulting police during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, along with two other Pennsylvania males.
Tighe Scott, 75, and his son Jarret Scott, 48, are accused of several petty counts and two felonies apiece for a string of alleged assaults they carried out among the pro-Trump crowd outside the Capitol.
According to charging documents, Tighe Scott’s identification was verified by the FBI partly as a result of a witness informing agents that he was a former NASCAR racer.

Prosecutors claim that the two Scotts, along with another father and son from Pennsylvania, Scott Alex Slater Jr. and Scott Slater Sr., verbally and physically harassed law enforcement officials who were attempting to protect the Capitol by throwing or striking a line of police trying to control the crowd with flagpoles, golf clubs, and “Area Closed” signs.

On the day of the riot, the four men were shown on video footage from the Stop the Steal demonstration. A criminal complaint states that the guys walked to the Capitol building during the event and “began yelling at the line of officers attempting to clear the area.”
It is reported that Slater Jr. threw a flagpole and an “Area Closed” sign into the line of officers after yelling, “F— you mother —–“.
According to the complaint, all four males “resisted and confronted the police line,” with the younger Scott allegedly brandishing a golf club while the other two Scotts allegedly pushed into the officer’s shields.
Tighe Scott reportedly “attempted to rip the shield” from an officer’s hands at one point, but he was shoved aside and fell backward. The lawsuit claims that after Jarrett Scott’s father fell and knocked him backward, he allegedly yelled obscenities at the cops and jeered at them.
There are presently no attorneys listed for any of the men. On Wednesday, they were scheduled to appear in federal court in Pennsylvania for the first time.
As of May 6, more than 1,424 persons had been detained concerning the disturbance on January 6; over 820 of them had entered guilty pleas, according to the Justice Department.
