Ex-NFL rookie star who turned to Broadway career in retirement linked with Chicago Bears in shock head coach move

The Chicago Bears have declared that they had interviewed Eddie George regarding their open head coach position.

Since Mike McCarthy’s contract with the Dallas Cowboys ended last week, they have been considering him as a free agent in the head coach hunt.

In a new development, however, the Bears posted on social media that they had finished speaking with former NFL player George.

After a brilliant college career, the 51-year-old played in the NFL for eight years before making the shocking decision to leave American football for Broadway.

George, a former running back, has been the head coach of Tennessee State University since 2021. This is his first coaching post.

The Philadelphia native may now be headed to The Windy City, where he might regain his position at the top of the game.

The Bears posted the following 11-word on social media: “We have completed an interview with head coach candidate Eddie George.”

According to his views on his Broadway career, when he played Billy Flynn for three years in the renowned Chicago musical across the nation, George is known to embrace a challenge.

“I’m always kind of leery of being in the right place at the right time saying the right thing,” he remarked in a 2019 speech.

If George accepts a possible employment offer from the Bears, he might make a victorious comeback after retiring from the NFL as a four-time Pro Bowler.

According to reports, Bears general manager Ryan Poles is seeking a “leader of men” to assume leadership.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer’s most recent column, the news of the interview has generated a stir among NFL experts: “Eddie George getting an interview in Chicago is at least interesting.”

“Anyone who s spent five minutes around George knows he has the personality to lead.”

Breer warned that George would require a capable coaching staff to succeed in spite of this glowing recommendation.

Since 2020–21, the Bears have not qualified for the NFL playoffs.

But that appearance, along with one in 2018–19, was made possible by a Wildcard.

Their only postseason appearance occurred in 2010–11, when they advanced to the Conference Championship final before losing to the Green Bay Packers.
