Farragut North K Street Entrance Welcomes Commuters with Upgraded Escalators

Debarylife – Two weeks ahead of schedule, the Farragut North station’s K Street entrance is once again open. There are now three brand-new, dependable escalators at the entryway, together with a fixed support beam. This year, escalators at additional stations will be replaced (see the list below).

To speed up the renovation, Metro closed the entrance. Customers used the two L Street doors to access the station during construction.

As part of an ongoing initiative to replace all 139 escalators through 2027, Metro’s contractor, KONE, has replaced 78 of them, ensuring that our infrastructure is kept in good condition.

Metro’s escalators are currently 9.4 years old on average, a significant improvement from their 27-year average when the initiative was initially introduced in 2011.

Since the program’s inception, failure rates have decreased by about 30% systemwide and on newer escalators.

Replacement escalators will be installed this year at the following stations: Addison Road, Benning Road, Deanwood, Dupont Circle, Fort Totten, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Rosslyn, Vienna, L’Enfant Plaza, Franconia-Springfield, Pentagon, Medical Center, Crystal City, and Twinbrook.
