WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A two-alarm fire in Northwest D.C. on Thursday morning killed one person and hurt three others, according to DC Fire and EMS.

Building Claridge Towers is a nine-story complex of senior apartments in the 1200 block of M St. NW. The fire began in an apartment on the eighth floor. DC Fire and EMS said they came into the flat and found someone dead There.

My friend Tracy Smith risked her life to help other people in the building. They needed help getting out of the building because many of the adults there had trouble moving around.

Smith explained, “I ran back into the building and helped everyone get off the seventh, eighth, and ninth floors.” “Scary stuff this is.” I feel terrible about this.

Firefighters and three other people with injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening were taken to the hospital by ambulance, a department official said.

A mayday call was made by the fireman, who was then taken to the hospital to be checked out. Andre Edwards, the acting fire chief, said he was fine and that giving the mayday call was the right thing to do.

Arlene Green, another neighbor, said she saw through the windows as her friends were being saved.

“They told me to leave the building because the fire department’s ladder extension was right in front of my window,” Green told DC News Now.

Before 9:45 a.m., the fire was put out by the crews. It is still not clear what caused the fire.

After some time, the roads in the area were opened again.
