Fatal Outcome: Tampa Woman Murders Partner, Ends Own Life in Alabama, Says Hcso
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a man died after his girlfriend shot and murdered him in Tampa early Wednesday morning before fleeing to Alabama and committing suicide.
Deputies were called to a home in the 9200 block of Shellgrove Court shortly before 7 a.m. by a “concerned family member.” When deputies entered the home, they discovered Kelby Avila, 50, dead from a gunshot wound.
HCSO discovered that Avila’s girlfriend, Maira Pacheco Nuñez, 58, shot him and fled the scene. Pacheco Nuñez was eventually arrested for second-degree murder with a firearm.
According to HCSO, within an hour of the arrest warrant being issued, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama stopped the 58-year-old’s vehicle.

Pacheco Nuñez fatally shot herself, according to authorities.
“This is a horrible, heartbreaking circumstance. “Our hearts ache for the family of this man whose life was tragically cut short,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Violence is not an option. Anyone experiencing or suspecting domestic violence should know that aid is available and they are not alone.

Nexstar affiliate WKRG was on the scene when Pacheco Nuñez was stopped on Interstate 10. The footage shows a large police presence surrounding the woman’s vehicle. The highway was closed for several hours.
HCSO has not stated what they believe led to the shooting.
