Ferndale man sexually assaulted woman, strangled her before barricading self in home

(FOX 2) FERNDALE, Mich.After being besieged inside a house for hours after police ordered him to surrender, a Ferndale man was taken into custody early on Sunday morning.

After receiving a 911 call at around 7 a.m., authorities discovered that Kenneth Hansen, 32, had sexually abused a woman before strangling her.

Hazel Park police were the first to respond because the attack took place on a house close to the Ferndale-Hazel Park line.

A female victim who had left the house on Pilgrim Street after Hansen had attacked her greeted them when they got there.

Police then surrounded the house and attempted to get in touch with Hansen, but he refused to cooperate. For over two hours, he refused their requests to leave the house and threatened the officers with violence and suicide.

Hansen was eventually taken into custody by police using a taser. He was granted a $300,000 cash bond after being charged with assault, criminal sexual conduct, and domestic abuse.
