Firing squad to be used as primary death penalty punishment after inmate survived lethal injection despite 8 attempts
Under a recently proposed bill, Americans on death row would have no choice but to be brutally murdered by firing squad.
After one prisoner survived eight attempts at lethal injection, lawmakers are urging that the brutal execution act be given priority.
In order to reinforce current law that permits firing squads in the event that fatal injections are not available, Idaho Representative Bruce Skaug proposed the bill on Tuesday.
His plan would make the firing squad the primary option rather than a last resort for prison officials.
Eleven months after 73-year-old serial killer Thomas Creech survived eight injection attempts, the law was introduced.
The offender, who admitted to 42 killings, was sent back to prison to face his destiny after the executioners were unable to locate a vein for an IV.

Due to the failed injection, the execution has been postponed and the killer’s attorneys are now permitted to plead for life in prison one last time.
Skaug, a Republican, presented the bill alongside Senator Doug Ricks in a meeting with lawmakers.
He maintained that the firing squad had less of an economic burden on the state and was a more compassionate means of punishment.
“This is how we carry out justice,” Skaug said Tuesday to state lawmakers.
“In certain instances, juries or judges have already determined that certain individuals should be executed.
“And so our job is to make sure it’s carried out in the most efficient manner.”
As a last resort, the firing squad is used in South Carolina, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Utah.
Idaho would be the only state in the nation to give the gunshot deaths priority, though.
Ronnie Gardner was the last prisoner to be executed by firing squad in Utah in 2010.
In 1985, Gardner chose to die by gunshot after killing a guy who was attempting to flee a courthouse in Utah.

According to the Death Penalty Information Center, inmates are usually strapped to a chair with leather straps and executed by firing squad in front of a canvas wall.
The inmate’s head is covered with a hood, and bags are positioned around the chair to collect their blood. The executioners drape a white cloth over their heart as a target.
Five shooters will aim.30 caliber rifles loaded with a single cartridge while standing in an enclosure set up around 20 feet away.
The inmate will probably die from blood loss after being shot. They will lose consciousness after their brain has had enough blood flow.
