First DC plane crash victims identified as US teen figure skaters traveling with moms and world-famous coaches

Among the first people identified in the terrible plane crash in Washington, DC, are rising star ice skaters and their world-champion trainers.

A Black Hawk crashed into an American Airlines passenger airliner over the Potomac River, killing an estimated sixty-four persons.

Just before 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the plane broke into three parts, and both planes sunk into the pitch-black waters.

The tragic rescue attempt swiftly devolved into a last-ditch recovery effort, with at least 28 dead recovered from the seas.

This is the deadliest US plane crash in almost 24 years, and officials say there are no survivors.

Ice skating community members traveling from the US National Champions made up at least 14 of the passengers on the aircraft from Wichita, Kansas, to the US Capitol.

The deaths of skaters Jinna Han and Spencer Lane, along with both of their mothers, were confirmed by Doug Zeghibe, CEO of the Skating Club of Boston.

The disaster also claimed the lives of their instructors, Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova, the world ice skating champions in 1994.

“Skating is a very close and tight-knit community,” Zeghibe added in a heartbreaking statement.

“These children and their parents spend six or even seven days a week at our facility in Norwood. It’s a very strong bond.

“This will have long-reaching impacts for our skating community.”
