First Take star Chris Russo fumes ‘you can’t make that mistake’ at Tony Romo after error in Chiefs-Bills CBS broadcast

When the Buffalo Bills defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 30–21, ESPN’s Chris “Mad Dog” Russo criticized CBS broadcaster Tony Romo for an error.

The 65-year-old feisty personality made an appearance on Wednesday’s First Take and criticized Dallas Cowboys veteran Romo’s live TV gaffe.

When Romo made a remark regarding Billswide receiver Amari Cooper following a catch in the first quarter of the Week 11 game, Russo took exception.

“This is what’s going to revolutionize the game. “Brandon Beane did a great job in the offseason by going out and acquiring a top player,” Romo remarked of Cooper.

But the Bills acquired Cooper at the NFL trade deadline rather than in the summer.

Russo became really upset over the mistake.

“Can somebody tell my buddy, Tony Romo; Tony, they did not, Buffalo, get Amari Cooper in the offseason,” Russo asked with a grin.

“He was captured eight days ago! Tony remarked that the GM’s offseason transaction to acquire him was a brilliant decision.

“Amari Cooper was not acquired by them in July! At the deadline, they got him a week ago!

For heaven’s sake, he’s playing the games.

That is not a mistake you can make! It’s national television.

Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round draft pick were acquired by the Bills in October in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

Stars of First TakeAnalyst Kimberley A. Martin, Molly Qerim, and Stephen A. Smith disapproved of the criticism made by their peers.

“The fact that you verified that man’s facts as if you had never erred on television before. “That’s bad,” Qerim remarked.

“You made a lot of mistakes today buddy.”

Russo was then chastised by Stephen A. for the outburst.

Smith remarked, “I have cautioned you from disparaging your peers in that manner.

“You don’t have to criticize Tony Romois because he is an excellent analyst.

“Every day, you make mistakes about names and other things on TV and Mad Dog Radio.

“No one is pointing up the numerous mistakes you make.

“You ought not to do so. You must be kind to him.

Fortunately for Russo, Romo will not be broadcasting in Week 12.
