Gas station chain giving drivers 40-cent discount per gallon before Thanksgiving but check fine print before filling up

Before Thanksgiving, a chain of gas stations is lowering costs by an incredible 40 cents per gallon, but not everyone will be able to afford the fuel.

This holiday season, drivers should read the tiny print before saving money on fill-ups.

The reason for this is that Sheetz is only lowering the cost of its 15% ethanol-containing unleaded 88 fuel.

Since ethanol isn’t as energy-efficient as other fuels, regular gasoline usually contains 10% ethanol.

According to the Department of Energy, the organic molecule really has around 30% less energy per gallon than gasoline.

Ethanol is not only less effective, but it also contains alcohol, which attracts water and corrodes motors.

Drivers should consult their manuals for ethanol usage advice prior to visiting the chain, which is situated in Pennsylvania.

Gas prices have dropped to about $3 per gallon, so those on a tight budget will save a ton of money thanks to Sheetz’s promotion.

In 2022, a gallon cost an astounding $3.56, but in 2023, the average price was about $3.25.

Around 72% of Americans will travel for Thanksgiving, up 75% from 2023, according to technology company GasBuddy.

“Americans are eager to get back on the road and visit loved ones this Thanksgiving, with the vast majority choosing the flexibility and convenience of driving, as gas prices have fallen below $3 in over half of the nation s states,” Patrick De Haan, a GasBuddy analyst, said.

According to this estimate, most drivers will save a little money, but Californians will not be able to take advantage of the new law.

Drivers must pay for stations to carry cleaner fuel, as required by the California Air Resources Board.

According to a University of Pennsylvania research, this shift could cause petrol prices to rise by as much as $0.65 per gallon the following year and as much as $0.85 by 2030.

According to Michael A. Mische, a professor at the University of Southern California’s business school, Golden State drivers would require an additional $222 to $449 per year in order to keep up with the shift.

In order to break even, drivers who are already having financial difficulties will need to find a way to earn an additional $600 to $1,000 before taxes, according to KTTV, a Fox station.

“The increase contributes to inflation, the high cost of living in California, and has a disproportionate and adverse impact on lower-income Californians,” Mische stated.

Additionally, a well-known gas station company closed 1,000 of its facilities to accommodate EVs.
