Grandfather who was hospitalized after after falling through the ice dies, sheriff says

FOX 2: Oakland County, MichiganOn Tuesday, it was announced that a grandfather who was hospitalized after falling through the ice with his grandson had passed away.

When the ice gave way on December 27, they started drilling into it. His 15-year-old grandson contacted 911 after the 66-year-old guy fell first.

He tried to free his grandfather after calling the police, but he also fell in.

A neighbor who was observing the situation at the time seized his kayak and went out to assist.

Before returning to shore to retrieve a second kayak to help the grandfather, he was able to help the adolescent out of the water. The man’s head was above water until help arrived, but the good samaritan was unable to save him right away because the ice kept breaking.

Before administering CPR, local firefighters were able to remove the grandfather from the water and onto safer ice using a line.

After being brought to the hospital, the grandfather passed away.
