The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture notified the produce company that a product sample tested positive for salmonella, which may infect young children and the elderly fatally, prompting the recall, according to the announcement.
The recall was announced on the FDA’s website which said, “The FDA is conducting whole genome sequencing to determine if this sample is related to an ongoing salmonella outbreak investigation.”
Although it’s doubtful that these cucumbers are on the market, the business advises consumers who own the recalled product to either burn it or return it for a refund.
Which merchants might have carried the recalled cucumbers was not stated in the notice.
There is only one ongoing investigation into a salmonella epidemic that has no known cause listed on the FDA website. 141 people have become ill as a result of the salmonella Africana epidemic, the agency said.
