Hit-and-run suspect in custody for crash killing off-duty Detroit police officer

FOX 2.DPD said Monday afternoon that the hit-and-run suspect wanted in relation to the death of a Detroit police officer while off duty had been apprehended.

Due to a pending arraignment, the suspect has not yet been identified.

At Greiner, Officer Richardson was headed north on Hoover on his way home from work. According to witnesses, a white vehicle tried to turn left and struck the Jeep.

Just after midnight, Detroit Police arrived. When police got on the scene, they discovered a Jeep Wrangler that had been rolled over in an accident. The other car that was involved was gone.

Richardson was employed for a little more than a year. He was a military veteran and a family man with two daughters, according to Detroit Police.

On Sunday, a family outing began.
