Honoring A Memorable Moment? Flint, Michigan’s Record-Breaking Fart Turns Another Year Older”
DEBARYLIFE – Record-breaking is Michigan’s specialty; within its borders, at least ten living world records have been set. The word “excess” doesn’t exist in our lexicon because we are a bunch of people who love to go above and beyond in everything we do.
However, one record is perhaps the most well-known in Michigan; in fact, the ordinary person can almost instantly remember the date and celebrates it every year: it’s the loudest fart ever.
Michigan once again made history on May 11, 1972, setting a mark that some could call petty or sophomoric. However, greatness seldom comes without haters and critics.
With a flatulent episode lasting two minutes and forty-two seconds, Paul Hunn officially set the record in Flint. Unfortunately, there isn’t an official Guinness category for gasping, therefore all fart records are unofficial. which clarifies the reason this specific one is so hotly debated.
There are still stories about a man in Texas who allegedly chopped one that measured 194 dB, louder than a jet plane. Of course, his neighbors would have heard it too, but he also insisted that it was brief, maybe less than a second in duration.

However, Hunn’s claim is more credible because he had witnesses to back up his 118.1-decibel fart, while his lack of witnesses and excessive volume cast doubt on his claim.
To put it in perspective, that would be equivalent to suffering through almost three minutes of a chainsaw or 2.5 hours of a Metallica performance.
So cheers to Flint Fart Record’s anniversary. And it’s been fun, just in case someone HAS unofficially beaten you or might do so shortly.
