How petty Putin’s disastrous revival of Soviet ‘Friendship Games’ he bragged would rival Olympics completely failed

Putin has boasted about his own Olympic Games for more than a year, only to humiliatingly abandon them.

In 21 locations throughout Russia, 5,500 athletes would compete in 208 different disciplines as part of his ambitious proposal to bring back the Soviet Friendship Games.

The world was informed that it will be a record-breaking ceremony of athletic excellence.

Vlad then kept us in suspense by delaying the Friendship Games twice.

The Kremlin has officially declared that the games will not be held again until further notice.

According to the humiliating ruling Vlad signed on Monday, the Games have to be postponed in order to safeguard the interests of sportsmen and sporting organizations.

However, a wrestling match between North Korea and Russia is still possible.

According to the official announcement, the games will only be canceled until Vlad decides to reinstate them.

Nobody really believed that Putin would take the news well when Russia was prevented from competing in the Olympics in Paris due to its heinous invasion of Ukraine.

They didn’t anticipate what happened next, though.

Vlad made the decision to bring back the Friendship Games, which were originally conceived by the USSR.

After hosting the first Friendship Games in 1984, the Soviet Union opted not to host them again.

Friendship-84 was a response to the boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics by the United States and several of its allies.

The USSR made the decision to hold a counter Games as an alternative to the 1984 LA Games.

Communist allies like as North Korea, Cuba, and East Germany attended Friendship-84, which symbolized the USSR’s alternative worldview to America.

Even the Friendship-84 was not as big as the Olympics, it was still a significant athletic event that drew some of the world’s top athletes.

The Friendship Games are referred to as “my Olympics” by retired English long jumper Joyce Hepher.

This time, Vlad had similar ideas for the Games and scheduled the competition for September 2024, right after the Olympics in Paris.

The International Friendship Association (IFA), which is in charge of organizing the games, promised in March of this year that the event will be the largest in terms of both size and preparation time.

However, not everyone in the world was as excited about the concept as Russia was.

The Games were denounced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a cynical attempt to politicize sport by the Russian Federation.

The IFA is a political organization that receives funding from the Russian government, according to James Macleod, head of National Olympic Committees (NOC) Relations.

When Vlad announced in July that he was moving the Games to 2025, everything started to go apart for him.

This was reportedly done to maximize official and athlete availability.

It seems that the IFA had finally realized that holding a subpar Olympics right after the genuine Olympics was a bad idea.

We then learned in August that they wouldn’t take place until 2026.

Vlad will undoubtedly be embarrassed by the complete reversal that was revealed on Monday.

As an avid judo practitioner, Putin is desperate for Russia to be recognized as a participant in international sports.

Although he was overjoyed that Russia was hosting the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix damaged his reputation.

For melancholy Vlad, it’s time to start over.
