‘I got presents,’ Detroit music producer surprises kids in need with gifts
A Detroit music producer surprised children with a truck load of Christmas presents, brightening their holiday.
DETROIT (FOX 2) –Seven-year-old Inarra Williams rushed to the lobby as soon as the announcer announced that Santa Claus had stopped by COTS Peggy’s Place on Wednesday morning to deliver hundreds of gifts.
Santa immediately embraced her and gave her a present.
“I got a Hello Kitty car, a scarf,” Williams grinned. “I got presents.”
Williams was one among several dozen children who received gifts in the shelter’s lobby.
The initiative is dubbed Adopt-A-Block, according to Electrifyin Filthy Rockwell, who coordinated it through his nonprofit organization Filthy Cares.
Rockwell remarked, “We’re here spreading Christmas cheer again,” while children were picking up presents. We’ve been doing it for six years now. Thus, we are returning to the community to share love, peace, and positivism.
The Detroit native and Grammy-nominated producer arrived at the shelter on Christmas morning in a U-Haul loaded with 6,000 presents. The children received their gifts from Santa and Rockwell’s pals, who were also present.
“The dream is this. I always thought it would be like this, you know,” Rockwell remarked. We often deliver toys to homes by going door-to-door. However, families have had a really difficult few years, and this year is no exception. Many people have experienced homelessness. We therefore made the decision to visit COTS this year in order to show our love.
According to Rockwell, he, his buddies, and other community members have been gathering presents and contributions of brand-new toys for weeks, wrapping them in presents.
Giving children the Christmas he didn’t always have as a young boy growing up in Detroit is one of the objectives, he added.
Rockwell remarked, “I didn’t always get the gift I wanted.” Delivering some pretty awesome gifts to children—things that I couldn’t get, you know—was a dream come true. Actually, it was the entire concept.
Parents were also present, discarding the wrapping paper after their children had opened the presents.
Over the years, Rockwell claimed to have discovered that organizing the event had significantly benefited parents’ finances.
He therefore hopes to continue doing this for all of the people on Santa’s list for years to come. And perhaps it will encourage them to give back when they’re grownups.
“They’re unfamiliar with me. My name is unknown to the children. Not all of these folks are familiar to them. “They won’t recall Filthy Cares,” stated Rockwell. However, they will recall that someone once knocked on their home bearing a gift, you know. And it truly comes down to that.”
