After cheating death, Ricky Pearsall had a rookie season unlike any other.

The 24-year-old Pearsall has gained a fresh perspective after enduring the unfathomable trauma of being shot in the chest.

Pearsall’s chance to establish himself as the 49ers’ first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft was postponed.

Nine days prior to the 49ers’ season-opening victory over the New York Jets, the wide receiver was shot through the chest during an attempted armed robbery.

Because of SFPD Sergeant Joelle Harrell’s quick response, Pearsall miraculously survived the incident without suffering any harm to his internal organs.

In the 49ers’ Week 7 Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 24-year-old made his comeback to the field.

Additionally, Pearsall has already begun to establish himself, scoring his first touchdown in a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9.

His fresh outlook has been essential to the 31st overall pick’s rapid success.

“I am extremely fortunate to have those individuals in my life, and I have a solid foundation.

My father works as a first responder. I am therefore even more grateful for everything I went through after realizing what goes into that.

“I was essentially saved within a day by having responders come to me and provide assistance.

I now view those individuals very differently and appreciate them much more.”

“After that, my mother had a significant influence on me and my personality,” he continued.

“I believe she helped shape who I am now and how I conduct myself, whether I’m at people’s homes or even just in the building in terms of manners.

“I’ve always learned from my mother to treat others the way you want to be treated.

“I will always remember the many virtues and values that both of my parents instilled in me.

“Yeah, I think it just changed my perspective a little bit more than anything,” Pearsall continued, elaborating on how the career setback boosted his motivation.

“I’ve always had a lot of drive. That is something I firmly believe in. Again, I want to thank my parents for that.

Then came the completely other viewpoint that I should never take a day for granted since you never know when it would be your last.

In Pearsall’s life, both on and off the field, belief is also very important.

The most crucial thing, in my opinion, is simply exercising patience and having faith in God, Pearsall stated.

Therefore, God is the one I turn to. He will always be there for you and have your back, no matter what, when you’re feeling lonely or in that dark place.

The 49ers will use Pearsall in a larger capacity as they try to establish continuity and make a run for the playoffs.

Due to Brandok Aiyuk’s season-ending injury, Pearsall has already been given extra chances.
