Iconic 100-year-old US Open golf course and Olympic venue under huge threat of destruction as deadly LA fires rage
An historic golf course in Southern California is under danger due to raging wildfires.
As emergency personnel attempt to limit the fires, flames are raging throughout the Los Angeles and Palisades regions.
As flames spread around California due to strong winds, tens of thousands of residents have been forced to leave their homes.
The flames are spreading quickly toward Riviera Country Club.
Located directly in the line of the wildfire’s spread, this course is among the most historic in the United States.
The club’s current location in one of the required evacuation zones highlights the danger it confronts.

One of the top PGA Tour events, the Genesis Invitational, takes place at Riviera.
That event is scheduled for February 13–16, assuming the track is still intact by then.
Golf lovers expressed their sorrow on social media, expressing shock that the famous course is so near the fire.
“This just sucks,” a fan commented.
“Please no!!!” exclaimed another enthusiast.
“Whoa. I was only there last week. A third admirer commented, “It’s unbelievable how quickly the fire is spreading.”
“Those old trees in the course are going to be toast,” remarked a fourth admirer.
“Golf gods must be angry,” suggested a fifth admirer.
In addition to the Genesis Invitational, there are two more significant events that make the possible destruction of Riviera noteworthy.
The golf tournament is scheduled to take place at Riviera in 2028, when the Olympics will be held in the United States.
Riviera is also scheduled to host the US Open in 2031.
