Iconic horror star looks unrecognisable as he transforms into terrifying new character in upcoming scary movie
David Howard Thornton, star of TERRIFIER, plays a twisted version of Steamboat Willie in a terrifying new role.
Steamboat Willie’s reign of terror, which combines horror with vintage cartoon appeal, will be released this spring.
Screamboat, the Steamboat Willie horror film, will be released between late January and April 2025.
The murderous mouse, played by David Howard Thornton, who is most renowned for playing Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise, has been shown off for the first time.
David, 45, delivers a terrifying take on the iconic figure and doesn’t look like him at all.
Christian Cordella created the practical effects that turned David into the deadly Steamboat Willie, and Quantum Creation made them a reality.

“I’m so excited to share our mischievous monster mouse with the world,” writer-director Steven LaMorte told Variety. Screamboat is my attempt to honor Disney while putting a humorous yet frightening spin on the beloved franchise.
It has been absolutely incredible to see David Howard Thornton work with the wizards at Quantum Creation FX to bring Steamboat Willie to life. He is incredibly funny and incredibly entertaining. I’m so excited for viewers to meet Willie and witness the mayhem we’ve wrought.”
According to the official synopsis, Screamboat is about a bunch of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry voyage that turns fatal when a cunning mouse goes on the rampage and attacks unwary passengers.
Before their leisurely drive becomes a nightmare, the odd team must come together to stop the deadly threat.
Terrifier, Mistress Peace Theatre, Terrifier 2, Bupkis, and Terrifier 3 all featured David as Art the Clown, his most well-known character in the Terrifier trilogy.
In The Mean One, the American actor likewise embodied the Grinch’s horror adaptation.
He also portrayed Shizoku and other characters in the video game “Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom,” the Joker in the YouTube series “Nightwing Escalation,” Art the Clown in the movie “Terrifier,” and Grandpa Who in the first through fifth national tours of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical.”
Screamboat also stars Allison Pittel, Tyler Posey, Amy Schumacher, Jesse Posey, Jesse Kove, Kailey Hyman, Rumi C Jean-Louis, Jarlath Conroy, and Charles Edwin Powell, as well as cameos from Brian Quinn and stand-up comedian Joe DeRosa.
Screamboat is not the first, nor the only horror film to take popular characters that have entered the public domain and put a gruesome twist on them.
There are not one, but two films based on Popeye hitting screens this year, including Popeye s Revenge and Popeye the Slayer Man.
