Illinois Health Officials Report Botulism Cases Linked to Cosmetic Injections

Two cases of botulism-like illness have been reported by state health officials in Illinois, and they believe that cosmetic injections performed by a nurse in LaSalle County may be the cause of these illnesses. Symptoms of botulism include hazy vision, drooping face, and exhaustion. The Illinois Department of Public Health has instructed hospitals to be on the watch for patients who display these symptoms.

After obtaining injections that they believed to be Botox but may have been fake, two individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. According to the health agency, these treatments were delivered by a licensed nurse in LaSalle County, but she was behaving in a manner that was beyond the extent of her authority.

Dr. Sameer Vohra, the director of the Illinois Department of Health, issued a statement that was prepared and said, “Illinois residents should exercise caution when considering cosmetic treatment.” Receiving these therapies in circumstances that are not regulated or approved can place you or the people you care about in a position where you are at a significant risk for developing health problems.

Similar reports of patients becoming unwell as a result of likely bogus Botox injections have been made in Tennessee, and the Illinois cluster follows those allegations.
